Is It My ADHD? Navigating Life As A Neurodivergent Adult

As many as 1 in 20 people in the UK have ADHD, and there are an estimated 2 million women currently undiagnosed. Grace Timothy was diagnosed in 2021, in her late 30s, after struggling with various aspects of every day life but never quite understanding why. We have gone from having very little information about women and ADHD to it being one of the big topics of the moment – and that means there is a lot of misinformation and myth flying around. Grace feels passionately about dispelling those myths and giving a real life insight into what it is like to navigate life as a neurodivergent adult. She covers topics like money, work, parenting, friendships, relationships, and mental and physical health, and how all of those things can be affected by ADHD.

Grace Timothy is available for solo talks, in conversations, or to speak with any library groups focused on women’s health and/or neurodivergence. She can appear in person or online.

Author
Grace Timothy is a lifestyle writer who has previously contributed to Vogue, Glamour, Sunday Times Style, Grazia, Red and Stylist, and now freelances from her home in Sussex. Grace is also a brand consultant specialising in fashion, beauty and helping companies better support neurodivergent customers and staff, and the host of the Is It My ADHD podcast. Since being diagnosed with ADHD in 2021, she has been on a mission to spread awareness of the true lived experience of ADHD in women and non-binary people, in whom ADHD is so often missed, thanks to the fact that the diagnostic criteria and research is so heavily skewed to the white male case study.
Book
Much like the 3-4% of the British population with ADHD , Grace always felt on the outskirts of 'normal' but could never express why. When she was finally diagnosed in 2021, information on ADHD in women was scant. Now, neurodivergence is the hot topic on everyone's lips, and with the increased awareness, we've encountered a new challenge: how can we circumnavigate the misinformation and better understand our own brains? In Is It My ADHD?, writer, journalist and podcaster Grace Timothy speaks to experts and those living with ADHD about what life is truly like as a neurodivergent adult, offering support, comfort and advice along the way, as well as providing the reader with tools to understand what ADHD really is. With expert help, this book will bust the myths, offer helpful guides to different aspects of ADHD and give key insight into the lived experience of ADHD, exploring the common - and not so common - symptoms and traits specific to the women and those assigned female at birth, taking into account the various intersections of race, gender, culture and age.
