Hannah Baker's Books for Big Feelings

For this year’s Teachers’ Reading Challenge we have asked educators to give us their recommendations, broadly on a theme of ‘diverse realities’.

This time the theme is challenging feelings- books that explore loneliness, anxiety, anger, sadness and other difficult feelings in a nuanced way and allow children to accept and deal with complex emotions, or show characters doing so.

Hannah Baker is the Primary Literacy Lead at Astrea Academy Trust. She works with 18 primary schools, all based in South Yorkshire. She loves children’s literature, and what it can teach us about life, and has put together this really special list for us.

Hannah believes that if everybody read children’s fiction the world would be a better place.
