Current volunteering opportunities
Summer Reading Challenge
The Summer Reading Challenge happens every year in libraries across the UK during the summer holidays, encouraging children aged 4-11 to read for fun. Volunteers at the library can get involved with things like running activities for children and families, handing out prizes, and talking to children about the books they’ve read.
Contact your local library today to ask about volunteering opportunities for this year’s Challenge! You’ll need to contact the library directly – you can find your nearest branch using our Library Finder.
Are you working towards your DofE Award?
We’re a DofE Approved Activity Provider, so your Summer Reading Challenge volunteering counts towards the volunteering section of your Duke of Edinburgh’s Award!
Reading Friends
Our Reading Friends programme is driven by volunteers, who are recruited and supported directly by our local projects. We have created training and resources to support you.
Take a look at our map to see if there’s a project running near you. If not, you can register your interest for the future once we can expand further.
