Reading Ahead

Reading Ahead is an annual programme that can be delivered throughout the year.

The 2024-25 Reading Ahead cycle launches on Friday 23 August 2024 and will end on Friday 4 July 2025*. Orders will be dispatched from Monday 9 September 2024.

*Print packs and resources for Reading Ahead 2025-26 will be available to order from Friday 4 July 2025 with the 2025-26 Reading Ahead cycle running from Friday 4 July 2025 to Friday 6 June 2026

If you would like to take part in Reading Ahead, please contact your local library or learning provider for further details or contact [email protected] for information on where Reading Ahead is being offered locally.

For organisations and groups wishing to run the Reading Ahead programme

If you are interested in delivering Reading Ahead, you can order core print packs and top-up certificates and diaries from The Reading Agency’s shop. You will need to order one of the core packs to get started with your participants, available to purchase in the following print pack quantities:

Starter Pack – 25 participants £50

25 reading diaries, 25 certificates, 25 flyers, 25 bookmarks and 1 A3 poster

Single Pack – 50 participants £90

50 reading diaries, 50 certificates, 50 flyers, 50 bookmarks and 3 A3 posters

Double Pack – 100 participants £150

100 reading diaries, 100 certificates, 100 flyers, 100 bookmarks and 6 A3 posters

Triple Pack – 150 participants £225

150 reading diaries, 150 certificates, 150 flyers, 150 bookmarks and 9 A3 posters

Mega Pack – 1,000 participants £1,120

1,000 reading diaries, 1,000 certificates, 1,000 flyers, 1,000 bookmarks and 30 A3 posters

How to get started with Reading Ahead 

1. Purchase a print pack for the required number of participants from The Reading Agency Shop here. Packs are available to purchase in quantities of 25 (starter), 50 (single), 100 (double), 150 (triple) or 1000 (mega). You will receive a printed welcome letter and printed participant sign-up form with your order along with The Reading Ahead 2024-25 Programme Guidance for Coordinators (attached to your order confirmation email), with support on how to run the programme in your organisation. This can also be downloaded from the Reading Ahead Resources area here.
2. We offer a range of incentive items that can be used to encourage and congratulate Reading Ahead participants on their reading journey. These can be purchased from The Reading Agency Shop here.
3. Prison librarians and prison staff – Thanks to generous support from Give A Book  prisons running Reading Ahead are gifted free dictionaries for their completers. Organisation evaluation forms must be completed and returned for dictionaries to be dispatched. Please email [email protected] when your participants have completed Reading Ahead for further information on how to receive your dictionaries.
