The Comet

Joe Todd Stanton, Joe Todd Stanton

When Nyla has to leave her home in the countryside to start life again in the city, all she can think about is everything she misses from before. So when a comet comes crashing through the city streets and starts to glow and grow, Nyla can’t resist a chance to head somewhere that feels closer to what she had before . but what starts as an escape could be just the thing to make her finally feel at home.

From the award-winning Joe Todd-Stanton, comes an exquisite and heartfelt picture book touching on the bewildering experience of moving house. This beautiful story explores how this can affect a child’s sense of belonging, but also how it can open them up to new and wonderful experiences.

We enjoyed this book because we like the sun, moon and stars.

I liked this book, because it shows a girl with her dad

I liked the stars

i did'nt like when the witch came out of nowhere.

It was a fiction story of a young girl and her father who were both in the same family together and were both in the house together and were dinner making and drawing time to time .

It has beautiful illustrations. I liked this book because of the illustrations and it has a girl finding a comet

It was quite interesting

The pictures tell the story in this book. It's not completely wordless; there are some short sentences, but the detail is in the drawings. There's lots to notice and discuss. Nyla loves where she lives with her Dad and Fig, the cat.. They spend a lot of time together, both inside their home and outside in the beautiful countryside that surrounds them. From watching the sunrise together, to looking out at the sky at night - It's idyllic, until Dad get a new job in town. Nyla becomes unhappy, with a busy Dad who is working hard and an environment which is alien to her. Then, one evening she sees the comet and the magic starts to grow, for Nyla, again. The story shows that life might be different for Nyla, but she can still find fun and be happy. As I said earlier, I would recommend taking time to really enjoy the illustrations. There's so much to see! Finding things you haven't spotted before would surely come with each reading revisit.

I love how the story ended

Beautiful pictures. Like because all about kindness

A really good book because there are lovely pictures on all of the pages

This book is fiction, but so many people can relate to it. The character I like the most is the dad because even though he has work and Nyla has made so much mess when he sees the comet, he understands. Yes, I would recommend this book to someone younger than me, not my age.

I loved this story. the girl was sad when they moved home and her dad was busy. she was happy at the end that the comet had given her time with her dad I would recommend this book

I like Nyla.

It was awesome

This story was sad to start, the girl was very sad to leave her nice house and the stars and the countryside. After a while, her and her daddy made changes and decorated the flat to make it nicer.

It’s a good story about moving house

A great story to start the new school year to read to my class. It tell the story of Nyla, who has moved to the city and is struggling to accept the changes in her life. Beautifully illustrated and a lovely story to share. I would recommend this book.
