The Reading Agency launch a new series of online author events this winter
As the days grow shorter and the weather colder, we are very excited to launch our new series of free, online author events to brighten readers’ evenings. The monthly events, which will take place from November 2020 to February 2021, will form part of our Winter Webinar series. These virtual events will include author readings, book chatter, panel discussion and Q&As. The webinar series is free to attend with the aim to support readers and authors to stay connected during Covid-19.
We will be kicking off the series on Tuesday 10 November with The Boy Between: A Mother and Son’s Journey from a World Gone Grey, in partnership with Libraries Connected (register for a free ticket here). Bestselling novelist Amanda Prowse and her son, Josiah Hartley, will be joined by writer, presenter and activist Natasha Devon MBE, a trustee of Student Minds and patron of No Panic, to discuss their deeply personal story and the mental health crisis affecting young people today. Amanda Prowse knew how to resolve a fictional family crisis. But then her son, Josiah, came to her with a real one.
The Boy Between (published on 1 November 2020 by Little A), portrays Josiah’s experience as a 19-year-old Bristol University student who had the world at his feet – until one day things changed. Without warning, his mental health deteriorated to the point that he planned his own death. His mother found herself grappling for ways to help him. With no clear sense of where help could be found, it felt like she might lose it all: her marriage, her own sanity and most crucially, her son. Told in alternating chapters and giving unique voice to the impact of mental illness on child and parent and the immense strain it put on that relationship, The Boy Between is a vital call to action for more awareness and support for young people and their families.
