Want to help others discover reading? Then why not become a World Book Night Community Book Giver?
What is World Book Night?
World Book Night is a celebration of reading and books. Passionate volunteers gift books in their communities to share their love of reading.
World Book Night is about giving books and encouraging those who have lost the love of reading - or are yet to gain it - to pick up a book and read, opening the door to new opportunities. In the UK 35% of people don't regularly read but we want to change this.
The deadline for applying to be a World Book Night volunteer giver has now passed but you can still become a Community Book Giver. As a Community Book Giver you choose - and provide - the book you give. You can choose to give any book you want and you can also choose whoever you want to give the book to. What we ask is that you give your book with the aim of helping someone develop the same love of reading that you have.
You can register to be part of the community and collect special World Book Night stickers and bookplates from your local library or bookshop.
Why get involved?
- Help others by sharing the love of reading
- Plan activities and events and get some great new skills
- Add some extra sparkle to your CV
- Get your mates involved and have fun

"A few years ago, I was given a WBN book. I didn't read very regularly - and didn't read at all because I wanted to. After being given the WBN book, my curiosity and imagination was sparked, and ever since I have been addicted to reading. First it was a small bookcase, now I have piles of books all around my bedroom (and overflowing into other rooms of the house - much to my parents annoyance!). I want to share this love of reading with other people, and hope that if I can spread it to just one person, hopefully they can do the same to someone else in the future. I was a giver last year, and have got many of my friends hooked on Patrick Ness and other writers, and even made a new friend because of WBN! Hopefully I can replicate this again this year!"
