Mythical Maze Activity Ideas Competition

The Mythical Maze themed Summer Reading Challenge is fast approaching and soon hundreds of volunteers will be on the lookout for fun activities to do in the library.
Share your Mythical Maze activity with us and be in with a chance to win a prize. It can be ideas for volunteers to do with other volunteers or activities to run with children. The group who sends over the most Mythical Maze themed activity ideas by 23 July can choose between a popcorn maker or candy floss machine, or we'll buy your group a round of pizza! Or, if you submit alone you could win a £30 cinema voucher!
And just for luck, here's an activity you can do to get your brain ticking:
Warm up your brain
1. Start with a word association game that gets you thinking creatively. Stand in a circle. Get one person to say a word out loud, in this case "maze". The person next to them responds to this word quickly with the first associated word that comes into their head, for example "labyrinth". Go around the circle taking it in turn to respond to the word of the person next to you. Keep going until you feel you are as far away from the first word as possible. Nominate someone to write all the words on a flipchart.
2. In groups, use a minimum of 3 of the words to come up with a Mythical Maze themed creative activity idea. Get active!
Or check out ideas that other volunteers have posted on the Ideas Bank. Try some of them out, including ones for volunteers to do alone when it's quiet, things to do with friends or ways to help kids read.
Time to create your own activities!
Try creating your own activity with the theme of Mythical Maze. This can be something for the volunteers to do with kids, for volunteers to do together, or a solo activity for a volunteer.
Think about:
- What to call it
- What you do
- How long it takes
- What you need
- Who its for?
- Any top tips?
Once you're happy with your activity plan write it down. Swap plans with someone else and test out each other's ideas. How easy was it to follow? Could it be improved in any way? Listen to feedback and make any amends to your own plan.
