Aliens, cartoons and Victoriana - Reading Activists updates
Reading Activists in Washington, South Tyneside (pictured above) and Warrington have been very busy this month. Details of their escapades can be found below.
Warrington
Animator, writer and Bob the Builder creator Curtis Jobling stopped by the Reading Activists group in Warrington for a workshop. He talked about his work and ran a quiz based on his new Wereworld series, in which participants had to guess whether close up photos were of werewolves, or just hairy men!
South Tyneside
According to local Reading Activists...
Doctor Who fans got a real treat on National Libraries Day as some of the aliens from the show invaded South Shields Central Library. The aliens including some "well loved" good guys spent a full day wandering the shelves jumping out at fans and unsuspecting passers by. Even Davros creator of the Daleks dropped in to recruit some new blood. Along with a fully armed dalek ready to exterminate, Davros gave a talk to an entranced and slightly nervous audience. The bravest fans were given the chance to stand up and ask Davros a question or to come down to the stage and have a photograph taken with the evil scientist and his deadly creation. Our Reading Activists group got a chance to interview the man himself who loved the libraries here on earth and would get his daleks to exterminate any books featuring the Doctor. All in all a truly out of this world experience.
Washington
Washington's own Washy Readers took a step back in time with their Heritage Awareness day. Participants were given the opportunity to create glasswork, make hand-bound books, and explore their family history. Oh, and dress up in costumes of course!
