We're working with the Society of Chief Librarians and the Association of Senior Children's and Education Librarians to launch Reading Well for young people on 12 April. The scheme is supported by Arts Council England and the Wellcome Trust.
A booklist of 35 titles will be made available in public libraries across England. The titles provide 13 to 18 year-olds with support and advice on common mental health conditions, such as depression, anxiety and stress. The books, which include self-help, psycho-education, memoirs, graphic novels and fiction, have all been chosen by young people and health professionals.
Reading Well for young people is part of the successful Reading Well Books on Prescription programme, which since its launch in 2013 has reached half a million people with expert endorsed self-help reading available in public libraries.
You can order the following supporting print materials from our online shop:
- User leaflet
- A4 / A3 portrait posters
- Book display bins
- Pop-up banners
The deadline for orders was 29 January. We're continuing to take orders for materials after this date, although we are unable to offer overprinting and may not be able to guarantee delivery of materials in time for the national launch.
If you'd like some guidance on the number of leaflets to order, based on the number of young people in your authority, please consult this spreadsheet.
A bank of digital resources will be available from February on our Reading Well resources page for library professionals. These will include plasma screen artwork, a digital user leaflet, social media guidance, and resources to support local partnerships including commissioning guidelines and a PowerPoint presentation.
Please get in touch if you'd like to view the Reading Well for young people booklist for ordering and partnership purposes.
During the ordering period for the list, it's likely that several titles will temporarily go out of stock as publishers adjust to the increase in demand from libraries. However, orders can still be placed with book suppliers for all titles. If this is done by 29 February, books will be with you in time for the launch. We're monitoring book availability closely - please let us know if you have any questions about particular titles.
