I gave oral evidence as a witness in the process, and agree wholeheartedly with its identification of the disparity around the country in how cuts to library budgets are being handled.
When I was little, my school had a visit from a blind person who showed us how to use Braille. Already a keen reader, I was both fascinated and appalled at the same time, and can remember going on and on to my poor mum about what it would be like if you couldn't use your eyes to read.
Reading in the UK is changing dramatically. New digital platforms are transforming the ways in which people discover and read their books, while new websites and services are changing how readers connect with other readers.
