Results of the 2012 Summer Reading Challenge are now all in - a big thank you to everyone for sending in your data.
We are pleased that even in these challenging times 750,000 children took part in Story Lab. 427,500 children completed the Challenge, too, earning medals for reading 6 books. Well done to all the library staff, all the children, their families, and everyone who helped them have a good reading summer!
The number of volunteers helping with the Challenge increased dramatically this year, with 5761 volunteers helping in 137 library authorities. Of these, 4382 were young people aged 11-24 - a 49% increase over the number involved in 2011. You can download the full 2012 Summer Reading Challenge volunteering report.
Visits to the Summer Reading Challenge website were also up by 55% this year. 48,000 children signed up to Story-Lab.org.uk and tracked their reading over the summer, logging over 100,000 books on the way.
It was good, too, to see Summer Reading Challenge activity on Facebook and Twitter, and we'd love to see people continuing to stay in touch as we work up plans for the 2013 Challenge.
If you've been involved with the Summer Reading Challenge as a volunteer, teacher, librarian, parent or guardian please share your experiences on our facebook page or send your pictures to Chris Cherry on firstname.lastname@example.org - we've love to hear your stories!
