We're proud to announce this year's book collection for the Summer Reading Challenge 2014. The theme for this year's Challenge is Mythical Maze and is illustrated by Sarah MacIntyre.
There are two lists - one for younger children and one for older children - with 69 titles between them. The books are all new 'must-reads' which will be published this summer and many of them will be displayed in libraries while the Challenge is running. Take a look at the two lists:
Selecting the books
Lots of publishers sent us over 300 finished books, manuscripts, and top secret early proofs to consider for the collections. We enlisted help from librarians and children from Chatterbooks children's reading groups to whittle the submissions down to just 69 titles.
Watch children from Borehamwood, Cuffley, Balham, Havering, Hook and Chessington Chatterbooks groups discuss some of the books they selected:
Librarian and Chatterbook group leader Julie Jones from Hertfordshire said:
"Thank you for allowing us to participate in the book selection process. The children really enjoyed looking at the books; they also liked the chance to see books 'in progress', which sparked a big discussion and idea for a future session! We're very much looking forward to the Mythical Maze and hope our choices are upheld!!"
Libraries can now order the book collections via their usual library supplier. They can also order our top ten titles for young volunteers
Children can find peer-recommended books based on their personal preferences via the book sorter on the Summer Reading Challenge website where there are also author videos and competitions.
Parents can join our facebook page to find out the latest news about the 2014 Challenge.
