'You have transformed my daughter's reading. She was a reluctant reader, now she is an enthusiastic one, who asks to read.'
'Circus Stars was really good - it makes you want to read more books and because of it I now love reading.'
The 2011 Summer Reading Challenge Circus Stars reached a record breaking 780,000 children aged 4 to 12. We're especially pleased about the number of boys who took part and the huge number of children who joined the library.
Run in 97% of UK libraries
335,400 (43%) of participants were boys
55,000 children signed up as new library members
345,700 children attended 17,400 Circus Stars events organised by libraries
Reading for pleasure is more important to children’s successes than education or social class. The Summer Reading Challenge gets three quarters of a million children into libraries to keep up their reading skills and confidence during the long holidays while Chatterbooks reading groups help build a lifelong reading habit. Because everything changes when we read.
