Caused a stir in my book club ( my choice!) I found the references to Nigerian culture fascinating but I dont think i 'liked' any of the characters. And how far should sisterly love go?

We loved this! For such a short book, no word was wasted and it is a very satisfying read (the audio book is also excellent!) Great characters, a gripping plot and darkly funny we highly recommend this as a book group read!
An extremely well written book based in Nigeria. It’s not your traditional crime read but a story of family and moral dilemmas with lots of dark humour. The short chapters make it a speedy read.
Enjoyed this darkly comic and well-paced story - very original. Quite surprised to see it long listed for the Booker Prize (it seems decidedly 'un-bookerish'), but good to see a wider variety of genres included than usual.
A very quick and easy read yet full of dark humour, satire and social commentary. I'm left thinking I should be horrified and outraged but somehow I'm smiling at the audacity. Great characters, simple plot and slick writing make this an excellent book. Good one for a readiing group as there are lots of issues arising that could be argued about for ages from all kinds of perspectives. Why only 3 stars not 4 or 5? Not nearly literary enough for 5 stars and too short for 4. Would go to 3.5 though.
