Beneath the Lion’s Gaze opens in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, 1974, on the eve of a revolution. Emotionally gripping, poetic and indelibly tragic, Beneath the Lion’s Gaze is a transcendent story that introduces a powerful new voice.

Latest reviews

I learned so much about the horrors of the 1974 revolution in Ethiopia and the subsequent brutal regime through the family in this novel. We get to know and like them, become engrossed in their lives, and, ultimately, want to know whether they survive. There are some horrendous torture scenes that are not for the faint hearted and I can't help wondering why the only thing I knew about Ethiopia at this time was the famine portrayed on our (British) TV news. This book sets the record straight in no uncertain terms.
