Six Book Challenge makes awards to top performing organisations

As the Six Book Challenge 2015 gets under way, organisations from all parts of the UK have excelled themselves in supporting this year's Six Book Challenge with 83 winning awards - up from 65 in 2013.
Top performer is The Manchester College which wins gold again this year for achieving 510 completers across ten sites. Librarian Janice Banner, seen collecting last year's certificate from Genevieve Clarke, is delighted.
"The Challenge has brought the college together in promoting literacy and putting an emphasis on reading. We have developed partnerships, reassessed resources, found innovative ways to engage students and celebrated our successes. Tutors feel that it has helped students to focus and achieve, so a definite yes to running the Challenge in 2015."
We're really pleased that some loyal regulars on our awards list have been joined by newcomers, namely library services in Durham, Rochdale, Medway and Milton Keynes and several colleges including three in Wales and one in Northern Ireland. Prisons have made a big step forward in their completion rate with nine gaining gold in 2014, including HMP Magilligan in their first year of running the Challenge.
New workplaces have also done well. The DVLA in Swansea achieved silver and employees at Tesco Extra in Watford (pictured here with Martina Cole) got bronze with the support of Usdaw. Staff who take part in the Challenge to encourage learners and to broaden their own reading might like to follow the example of Treloar School and College which achieved a bronze award to match their bronze for student completers.
If you are still running this year's Challenge please get in touch when you have a completion figure to tell us about. In the meantime, here is our roll of honour for 2014:
