As Finance Assistant at The Reading Agency my main responsibilities are setting up purchase orders, preparing and processing all supplier payments and staff expenses, and recording received income. I also carry out the monthly bank, credit card, and petty cash reconciliations, as well as looking after credit control.
I am happy to be part of an organisation that inspires people to read for pleasure. I hope to see more and more people develop the same passion for reading that I did from a young age, and to ensure that passion doesn't wane, especially when competing against video games, TV and social media. A very good book has the power to take us away to somewhere else, and help us forget our sometimes hectic lives. It's such a great feeling to get so into a book that you just don't want to put it down.
My earliest memories of reading for pleasure involve the Topsy and Tim and Mr Men books: I would forever be down the library searching for more titles in the series. I also absolutely adored the Well Loved Tales and as I got a little older the likes of Heidi, Charlotte's Web, and the Roald Dahl books became firm favourites of mine too.
Reading for pleasure has continued into adulthood for me. Although I read a lot of thrillers I am also very into historical fiction, American classics, and science fiction. I honestly can't say which book is my all-time favourite as it is always changing. If I were to recommend a single book at this point, I would have to say A Year of Wonders by Geraldine Brooks - a beautifully written tale that keeps you hooked page after page.
