Finish The Story - overall winner announced
We're delighted to announce that Emily, aged 9 from Crewe is the overall winner of the Summer Reading Challenge's Story Lab Finish the Story (Share the Glory!) competition and has won a laptop.
During the summer we asked children to finish short stories started by six well-known authors, including Jacqueline Wilson, Ambassador of The Reading Agency, and Julia Donaldson, Children's Laureate.
With over 7,000 entries, we've been kept very busy reading and shortlisting stories and, once short-listed, we asked the authors to chose the winner for their own story.
We've announced one winner each week over the past six weeks, and published each winning story on the Story Lab website
Earlier this week our panel of judges met, read the six winning stories and chose Emily's story 'Red Man Green Man', started by Julia Donaldson, Children's Laureate as the overall winner.
Our judges were children's author, Helena Pielichaty, journalist and writer, Damian Kelleher and Anne Ansbro from Hertfordshire Library Services.
Here's what they had to say about Emily's story:
"This is original and imaginative, showing wit and humour as well as a great sense of language. The personification of red man and green man is fantastic - you really feel you know their characters! The story links seamlessly with the opening by Julia Donaldson and it is a satisfying read which keeps you engaged throughout and makes you laugh - a lot! We think it would make a great picture book."
Well done Emily!
