Children's Reading Partners

Children's Reading Partners is a national consortium of children's publishers and librarians. It is a partnership between UK library services and children's publishers Bloomsbury, Faber, Hachette, LittleBrown, Macmillan, OUP, Puffin, Raintree, Random House, Scholastic, Simon & Schuster, and the Bounce consortium.

Children's Reading Partners aims to effect a step change in the way that publishers and libraries work together to widen children's access to books, authors and reading resources. It successfully provides opportunities for librarians and publishers to come together, share information, work out common goals and develop new ways of working collaboratively.

Our Roadshows

I met authors who I would hope to be able to invite into our libraries for events...I learnt about interesting new books that were coming out, I have names of marketing folks from publishers to liaise with in the future, and I met lots of lovely library folk that I had not met before (and some that I had!). We run regular roadshows, which bring publishers, librarians and writers together. Their aim is to support libraries and publishers to work together to run events and promotions and to share information about current issues and developments.

Publishers have the opportunity to promote new titles directly to librarians, build new library contacts and support librarians to promote lesser known titles to their readers. Librarians get the chance to learn about new authors and new titles, make publisher contacts and meet and talk directly to children's authors.

Come and meet children's publishers and authors at our Roadshow in Huddersfield - June 21st

Our next Roadshow for librarians and publishers is on 21st June, 10.45 to 3.45, at Huddersfield's splendid Town Hall.

Library staff working with children and young people are invited to come along to meet and plan with publishers and authors, at this Children's Reading Partners event, which is kindly sponsored by Bertram Library Services.

Each publisher will give a presentation about their latest children's titles, there will be displays and giveaways, plus an afternoon of 'speed-meeting' between libraries and publishers. A light lunch will be available.

To sign up for the Roadshow contact jenny.warner@readingagency.org.uk by June 10th.

Download the presentations from our Roadshow at the Mitchell Library in Glasgow with publishers, librarians and authors Teresa Flavin, Damian Dibben, Chae Strathie, and Charlie Fletcher

You can also read a profile of the roadshow that gives more details about the day and the difference it made to the people who came.

Background

Children's Reading Partners was launched in May 2008 as a two year pilot. This was in response to the book trade starting to understand the important work libraries were doing with young readers and as a way of building on the successes of our original Reading Partners project for adults.

We are lucky enough to have in the main body of the partnership 13 publishers (including one consortium of several independents) and library representatives from throughout the UK. The 13 publishers are:

  • Bloomsbury
  • Bounce
  • Egmont
  • Faber
  • Hachette
  • HarperCollins
  • Macmillan
  • Oxford University Press
  • Puffin
  • Raintree
  • Random House
  • Scholastic
  • Simon and Schuster

Children's Reading Partners also has the very active support of The Publishers' Association, the CILIP Youth Libraries' Group, ASCEL (Association of Senior Children's and Education Librarians), the School Libraries Association, Peters Library Service and Bertrams.

Please get in touch if you would like to find out more.
