I am a founder member of The Reading Agency and believe passionately in the transformative power of reading. Reading for pleasure is a powerful antidote; it inspires, excites and connects as well as opening up the riches of learning. I am especially excited about our reading and health work because of the huge potential for libraries' work with reading to promote the well being of local communities.
My all time favourite book has to be Jane Eyre, I have read and reread it over the years and each time find something new.
My favourite book as a child was Swallows and Amazons by Arthur Ransome; It transported me to a place where anything could happen and every adventure was possible.
A book I would recommend to take on holiday is Hilary Mantel's Bring up the Bodies. I took it away with me this summer and couldn't put it down!
